Today, Banca d'Italia has released the financial accounts for the second quarter of 2024, together with a backward reconstruction of the time series as part of the general five-year revision (benchmark revision) of European macroeconomic statistics. This revision has already been applied to the balance of payments and international investment position statistics released on 30 September 2024 in the Statistical Database of Banca d'Italia (BDS), which will be illustrated in the report to be published on 18 October 2024.
The changes to the financial accounts and external statistics data reflect several innovations and refinements in both the sources and the compilation methodologies; the methodological revisions that also influence the domain of national accounts were agreed upon by Banca d'Italia and Istat during their joint preparation activities for the 2024 benchmark revision. The revisions, albeit significant for some sectors and instruments, have not altered the main trends observed in the data.
