Eurosystem seminar on initiatives to support manufacturers and suppliers of banknote equipment for the issue of the new €20

On 24 February 2015 the new €20 banknote of the Europa series will be unveiled at the headquarters of the European Central Bank (ECB) in Frankfurt am  Main and its issuance date will be announced. The new €20 is the third banknote of the Europa series to be introduced, after the €5 and €10. The second series further improves the integrity of euro banknotes and helps keeping ahead of counterfeiters.

The Eurosystem will keep on supporting manufacturers and suppliers of banknote machines and authentication devices. Ever since 8 December 2014 banknote equipment manufacturers have been able to test the new banknote at the euro area national central banks and adapt their machines and devices. After 24 February interested parties will be allowed to borrow the new banknotes to perform tests at the facilities in which the banknote equipment is produced and set up.

As mentioned by Yves Mersch, Executive Board member of the ECB, “The ECB and the national central banks of the euro area look forward to working closely, once again, with the manufacturers, suppliers, operators and owners of banknote equipment. After all, it is they who prepare the machines and devices to accept this new banknote ahead of its issuance”.
