Call for payment service providers to participate in the digital euro pilot project

The Eurosystem has launched a call for expressions of interest for payment service providers (PSPs) to participate in a digital euro pilot.

The 12-month project will start in the second half of 2027. It will test the main features of the digital euro in a controlled environment to validate its technical functionality, operational processes and user experience. The 'beta' version of the digital euro, used exclusively for testing purposes, will not have legal tender status but will serve to define the next generation of digital payments in Europe.
