Antonio Finocchiaro (1938-2023)

The members of the Governing Board, along with both current and retired Bank of Italy staff, were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Antonio Finocchiaro, who was Deputy Governor from 1997 to 2009. In his long years of service at the Bank, he was able to combine passion, strong ethics and civic commitment.

Antonio Finocchiaro was born in Molfetta in 1938 and joined the Bank of Italy in 1961. After an initial period in the Economic Research Department, he moved to the Electronic Data Processing (EDP) Department, of which he became head in 1978. In 1981, he was appointed Head of the Personnel Management Department, and was responsible for relations with the trade unions. In 1985, he became Secretary General and was in charge of matters regarding Organization, Personnel, EDP and Banking Statistics. In 1997, he joined the Governing Board as a Deputy Governor, a position he held until 2009.
