18th International Operational Risk Working Group (IORWG) Conference

The 18th annual conference of the International Operational Risk Working Group (IORWG), co-organized by Banca d’Italia, Banco de España and the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, was held in Rome at Banca d’Italia's Carlo Azeglio Ciampi Conference Centre from 11 to 13 June.

The IORWG is an international working group that brings together operational risk management experts from 124 institutions, including central banks, supervisory authorities and monetary authorities (including the IMF and the BIS) from 118 countries. The group's objective is to develop and improve operational risk management tools and practices.

Discussions during the sessions focused, among other things, on the risks and opportunities relating to quantum computing, on the work on integrating ESG into central bank operations and on the creation of a shared repository for central banks’ operational risks and incidents.
