A significant share of workers are employed in regulated professions. However, the effects of occupational regulation on the labor market and on the quality of services are still under investigated. So is the potential impact of the technological innovation on the functioning of these markets and on the sectoral regulation.

The Bank of Italy organizes the workshop "The economics of occupational licensing" on this topic, taking place in Rome on November 8, 2019. The invited speech will be given by Morris Kleiner (University of Minnesota). Maria Koumenta (Queen Mary University of London), Lucia Rizzica (Bank of Italy), Giuseppe Nicoletti (OECD), Chiara Farronato (Harvard University), Mario Pagliero (Università degli studi di Torino), Davud Rostam-Afschar (Universitaet Hohenheim), Michele Raitano (La Sapienza - Università di Roma), Michele Pellizzari (Université de Genève) will present their papers. A round table with experts and policy makers will conclude the workshop.
