Bank of Italy - Rome, 5 November 2014 - 7 November 2014

The seminar on Accounting, Budgeting and Tax Issues is the third of the Bank of Italy's 2014 technical cooperation seminars programme.

Financial independence is a cornerstone for central banks which incur operational costs and risks in the course of their activities. Central bank independence and credibility also depend on capital adequacy and operational efficiency, which in turn follow from effective risk management, proper use of resources, and accountability to the general public. In addition to its activities and controls to ensure compliance with the accounting expenditure and tax rules, Banca d'Italia has stepped up its management control and the monitoring of legal, reputational and financial risks.

The seminar will describe and discuss the relevant processes, methodologies, tools and control techniques. The results obtained will be shared, in order to provide participants with an overview of the practices adopted.

Presentations will be given by Banca d'Italia experts. Short presentations from some participants will also be requested as a contribution to the debate.

Participants are representatives from the central banks of new EU member states, EU candidates and potential candidates, countries included in the EU neighbourhood policy and other emerging economies.

Participation in the Bank of Italy's international cooperation seminars is by invitation only and is limited to central banks.
