Between 2007 and 2015, for households only, the Bank of Italy produced a yearly publication on total net wealth.

The statistics on household wealth, and its composition, are obtained from the financial accounts. The estimates for real wealth break down into five components:

  1. housing
  2. valuables
  3. non-residential property
  4. plant, machinery, equipment and spares
  5. land.

Released for the first time in 2015, Istat’s annual estimate of the value of the stock of the institutional sectors’ non-financial assets has bridged the gap in information. Work is underway to integrate Istat’s new estimates of the institutional sectors with those released by the Bank of Italy in the Financial Accounts. The 2015 issue concludes the series on Household Wealth in the Supplement, pending a new and more comprehensive publication on the balance sheets of the institutional sectors.
