The papers presented at the workshop entitled "The sovereign debt crisis and the euro area" organized by the Economic Research and International Relations Area of the Bank of Italy on 15 February 2013 have been published.
The workshop provided a good opportunity to discuss the results of the analyses on the impact of the sovereign debt crisis on the financial system and the economy in Italy and other euro-area countries with representatives from the academic world.
The publication comprises three sections, which examine the main mechanisms by which the sovereign debt crisis was transmitted from the government bond markets to the banking system and then to the real economy.
