The Bank changes its organizational structure

The Bank of Italy is changing its organizational structure. Starting on 27 January 2014, the Head Office will be organized around eight Directorates General.

The new model, already taken up by numerous public and private organizations in Italy and abroad, is based on three decision-making levels under the Governing Board: directorates general, directorates, and divisions. Fostering more effective action for the same cost, it is part of the rationalization process that began with the reorganization of the branch network and the reduction in staff. The eight directorates general are: Economics, Statistics and Research; Banking and Financial Supervision; Markets and Payment Systems; Currency Circulation; Information Technology; Human Resources and Organization; Accounting and Controls; and Property and Tenders.

The Internal Audit and the Legal Services Directorates will still be directly responsible to the Governing Board. The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) will also continue to hold its independent position.
