Report on the Activity of the Banking and Financial Ombudsman for 2011

The Bank of Italy has published the "report on the activity carried out in 2011 by the Banking and Financial Ombudsman, the system set up in 2009 to handle disputes between intermediaries and their customers and provide out-of-court settlement that is just as impartial and professional, at a low cost and in a limited time.

In order to foster knowledge of the positions taken by the arbiter among the general public, the report contains a selection of cases handled by the various panels concerning the most common products and services. As of this year, this section is supplemented, for legal experts and anyone interested in studying the substance of the Ombudsman's decisions, a detailed survey of the legal principles it has adopted.
