The banking supervision portal is a gateway to online services related to banking supervision on the European Central Bank.

The IMAS portal, as one of these services, is the online platform supporting submissions of applications, notifications and other exchange of information between supervisors and supervised entities for certain supervisory processes under the competence of the ECB.

The aim is to simplify, digitalise and automatize supervisory assessments and to increase transparency towards banks on the progress of their procedures.

The IMAS portal does not change the respective tasks and responsibilities of the ECB and Bank of Italy as national competent authority (NCA) and the cooperation set out in the SSM Regulation and SSM Framework Regulation.

As of 15th of January 2022, the use of the IMAS portal is mandatory for the applications and notifications, as well as the related documentation, regarding:

  1. authorisation to take up the business of a credit institution;
  2. Voluntary withdrawal of authorisation;
  3. Acquisition of qualifying holdings in significant and less significant institutions;
  4. Procedures for the right of establishment and freedom to provide services within the SSM for significant and less significant institutions;
  5. Fit and proper procedures for significant institutions.
