Reporting provisions

In addition to relying on administrative, on-site and market sources, for its supervisory controls the Bank of Italy processes and interprets a substantial amount of information, documents and data, acquired from the periodic statistical and accounting reports it receives.

Using this information, the Bank monitors the riskiness of the supervised entities to detect any anomalies rapidly and to avert potential crises.

Databases and corporate analyses also enable the Bank to:

  • exercise, in the cases provided for in law, its powers of authorization and veto regarding the structure and operations of the intermediaries
  • study the evolution of the credit and financial system, among other things in order to adapt the regulatory framework
  • respond to requests for information from its institutional referents (the judiciary, parliament, ministries, other national and foreign supervisory boards and authorities).

The statistical reports that banks and banking groups are required to submit mostly contain quantitative data and are the main instrument for acquiring statistical-accounting data on the supervised entities.
The criteria for preparing and structuring the reports are consistent with those governing the financial accounts.
These data enable the Bank to:

  • conduct systematic analyses of the technical situation of the banks and banking groups (monitor the various risk profiles, capital adequacy and income)
  • verify compliance with prudential standards on an individual and consolidated basis.

  • Press releases in chronological order, news on important issues for the Bank, the schedule of events, procedures for accreditation for journalists, timetable of statistical publications, photo gallery and video gallery.
