EU law

The regulation of the banking and financial sector is based above all on Community law.

The European Union has a variety of instruments with which to introduce provisions into Member States' law, depending on the degree to which such legislation is to be binding on the individual Member States: regulations, directives, decisions, recommendations and opinions.

To know more about the different Community legal instruments, consult the Glossary on the website of the European Union.

All the legislation adopted by the European Union, including that on supervision, can be found on the EUR-Lex website.
