The usury law (Law 108/1996 - only in Italian) has introduced a cap on interest rates on lending beyond which the same shall be deemed usurious. To assess whether the rates are or not usurious, one should refer to the time when the interest is promised or agreed, regardless of the time of payment (Law 24/2001 - only in Italian).
