Basel III

The expression Basel III indicates a set of measures approved by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision in the financial crisis of 2007-08 with the aim of improving the existing prudential regulation of banks (currently referred to, in turn, Basel II) the effectiveness of supervision and the ability of intermediaries to manage the risks they assume.

Being a new and complex set of rules, the Bank of Italy has set up an internal "Basel III help-desk" to assist Italian banks in understanding the new regulatory standards.
