The Financial Stability Board (FSB) originates from the transformation of the predecessor Financial Stability Forum, convened in 1999, and regularly assembles representatives of governments, central banks, national supervisory authorities with responsibility on financial institutions and markets, international financial institutions, international associations of regulatory and supervisory authorities, and committees of central bank experts. It aims to promote financial stability at the international level, to improve the functioning of financial markets and to reduce systemic risks through the exchange of information and by furthering international cooperation among supervisory authorities.
Italy is represented by the Governor of the Bank of Italy and by high level representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and CONSOB. The FSB is currently chaired by the Governor of the Central Bank of Canada, Mark Carney.
