Capacity Building programmes

The Bank of Italy participates in several capacity building initiatives promoted by the European Union, such as administrative twinnings and Eurosystem programmes coordinated by the ECB. These initiatives usually have a multi-year duration; they are developed according to a precise programme setting duties and responsibilities both on the side of the TA provider and of the beneficiary and whose success depends on close cooperation among the institutions involved.

Since 2000 Bank of Italy's experts have been involved in twinning programmes financed by the European Union in favour of National Central Banks and other institutions in several countries (Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, Czech Republic, Turkey). In this field, it is worth mentioning the realisation of a twinning with the Central Bank of Albania. The programme involved the deployment of a resident advisor in Tirana for the whole period of the project and was characterized by the breadth of the topics addressed and the significant number of Bank of Italy's experts employed in its activities.

In the framework of the projects financed by the European Union and coordinated by the European Central Bank with the participation of the Eurosystem, the Bank of Italy has been taking part in almost all the initiatives carried out until now. These were in favour of central banks from Egypt, Russia and from candidate and potential candidate countries.

Finally, the Bank of Italy takes part in several technical assistance activities promoted by international institutions such as the IMF and the World Bank
