The use of the data implies acceptance of the following conditions and limitations:
in publications that make reference to the data, the author must give the source (Bank of Italy, Survey on Household Income and Wealth) but may not involve the Bank in any way whatsoever, since use of the data is under the full and exclusive responsibility of the author.
In order to keep the bibliography of the survey up to date, the author must send a copy of his/her research work based on the data to:
BANK OF ITALY, ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL STATISTICS DEPARTMENT, Sample Surveys Division, Via Nazionale 91, 00184 ROME, ITALY.
or send an e-mail to: studi.indagini@bancaditalia.it
To this end it is necessary to fill out the following form:
The information needed to make use of the data (the questionnaires of the most recent surveys, the names of the variables, notes on data use, etc.) are given in the documentation.
To download the data, select the survey you are interested in and click on the file to be downloaded from the list below. All the data are available in three different formats: ASCII, SAS and STATA (version 7 and above) formats. Data are compressed in one single zip archive named:
for the annual database: INDxx_format, where xx denotes the last two digit of the survey year and format indicates whether the file is ASCII, SAS or STATA file;
for the historical database: STORICO_aaaa_format, where aaaa denotes the survey year and format indicates whether the file is ASCII, SAS or STATA file.
All the ASCII files are "comma separated" (file CSV), the first row of the file containing the variable names. This feature reduces loading time for almost all statistical packages. These statistical packages load the data naming the variables according to the information in the first record.
WARNING!
Since 2002 all the figures included in the datasets are expressed in EUROS. Before 2002 they are reported in THOUSANDS OF LIRE.
To elaborate the data, we suggest you always use the sample weights, provided in the CARCOMXX file in the annual database, and in the PESOXX file in the historical database. All members of a household have the same weight.
