ln response to the heightened concern over operational continuity, in September 2006 the European Central Bank held a "conference on market infrastructures' business continuity in an integrated euro area". This prompted further work on the procedures for sharing relevant information among central banks and between them and market operators. A working group for integrated testing at European level was formed.
The conference found that a supranational crisis committee would be needed to coordinate the handling of interruptions in business continuity at European financial system operators and that comparable committees at national level were also needed.
As to testing, the Eurosystem has planned a series of trials of increasing complexity.
