Innovation in electronic payments: advances and lags in the spread of information and communications technology

This paper provides an overview of the demand for new technology in the principal sectors of the Italian economy (households, firms and government).

The surveys show that despite the considerable growth of recent years the use of the Internet and of ICT for e-commerce and e-payments remains limited because of perceptions of a large set of obstacles and risks. Some possible actions to overcome these obstacles are set out.
