Report to Parliament and to the Government for 2009

The report is divided into six chapters: the first four describe the functions performed by the Bank of Italy in 2009 and in the first months of 2010 as part of the European System of Central Banks and under Italian law. In particular, regarding the supervision of banks and financial intermediaries, market supervision and payment system oversight, the Report illustrates the principles and methods followed, the measures adopted and the changes to the regulation in force. The fifth chapter describes the Bank's activity in the fields of economic research, international cooperation and statistics; and the sixth contains information on the Bank's organizational arrangements.

With the publication of this Report the Bank of Italy complies with the requirements laid down in Article 19 of Law 262/2005 as amended by Legislative Decree 303/2006 and, as regards the supervision of banks and non-bank intermediaries, in Article 4 of the Consolidated Law on Banking (Legislative Decree 385/1993).
