The Evolution of Payment and Securities Clearing and Settlement Systems in the EU: the Banca d'Italia ExperienceInternational seminar - Rome, 17-19 December 2014

The seminar on payment systems is the fourth and last of Banca d'Italia 2014 technical cooperation seminars programme.

It will address the main issues related to the evolution of the payment and securities clearing and settlement systems in the EU from a policy, operational, technical and legal point of view.

Within the framework of the role played by the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) in this field, the seminar will cover:

  • the services offered in large-value payment systems, TARGET2, and in the near future in Securities clearing and settlement systems, TARGET2-Securities (T2S). Presentations will be complemented by a visit to the Service Desk for the “TARGET2-T2S Single Shared Platform (SSP)”;
  • the oversight functions performed by Banca d’Italia and its involvement in the field of  retail payment services and instruments, within the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA).

Presentations will be given by Banca d’Italia experts. With the aim to share experience and enrich the debate, short presentations from some participants, in particular from the Central Banks of Israel and Brazil, are included as a contribution to the debate.

Participants are representatives from the central banks of new EU member states, EU candidates and potential candidates, countries included in the EU neighbourhood policy and other emerging economies.

Participation in the Bank of Italy’s international cooperation seminars is by invitation only and is limited to central banks.
