Bank of Italy participates in Global Money Week 2018

What is money for? The Bank of Italy is once again taking part in Global Money Week (12-18 March 2018) this year, an event held all over the world to boost financial literacy among young people. This year’s theme is ‘Money Matters Matter’.

Almost 1,000 students from some of the schools that took part in the ‘Financial Education in the Schools’ project carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Education will participate in events organized by the Bank of Italy, which will be held in Rome and at the Bank’s branches in Bari, Campobasso, Florence, Genoa, La Spezia, Lecce, Naples, Palermo, Turin and Trieste.

Global Money Week seeks to use games and other fun activities to provide young people with a better understanding of how money is used and the importance of the financial world that surrounds them.

The goal of Global Money Week is to help young people understand that gaining financial skills will help them in making decisions over the course of their entire lives and that learning to budget, invest and save is important. The best international practices have shown that getting young people to start thinking early about these issues will help them be more confident in making financial decisions.

The initiative has become increasingly successful over the years. In 2017 alone, 137 countries took part, with around 7,800,000 youths participating, 72,759 activities carried out and 23,738 organizations involved, including the OECD.

Given the high number of those who have already signed up to participate, no more requests to take part in this year’s events are being accepted.
