The Governors

Bonaldo Stringher (1854-1930)

After graduating in Economics from Ca' Foscari University in Venice, he was employed as statistician at the Ministry of Agriculture and then as manager at the Ministry of Finance. His main field of work was customs policy. In 1888 he was a lecturer in Public Finance at the University of Rome. From 1893 until 1898 he was Director General of the Treasury, before being appointed State Councillor. He was elected Deputy in 1900 and was Under Secretary at the Treasury from June to November 1900, when he was appointed Director General of the Bank of Italy. He became a member of the Accademia dei Lincei in 1901. From January to June 1919 he left the Bank of Italy briefly to head the Treasury. He was nominated Governor of the Bank of Italy when the post was instituted in 1928. He died in December 1930.
