Vincenzo Azzolini (1881-1967)

After graduating in Law from the university of Naples, he joined the Treasury in 1906, where he was concerned predominantly with international financial affairs, working closely with Stringher on the stabilization of the Lira in 1927. In the same year he was appointed Director General of the Treasury. In July 1928 he became Director General of the Bank of Italy. After the death of Stringher he was nominated Governor in January 1931, a post he held until June 1944.
