The department monitors banknote circulation and implements the directives issued by the ESCB; it is responsible for the safekeeping and inward and outward shipping of banknotes, metallic reserves and other valuables held by the Head Office and carries out the related cash transactions. It oversees cash handlers, administers securities and valuables owned by the Bank and third parties as well as those held on behalf of the Bank’s branches. It deals with worn, damaged, forged and suspected counterfeit banknotes and verifies violations of the law on the reproduction of euro coins. It manages the Bank’s coin collections.
