The department provides payment services and accounting for the Treasury and liaises with the Ministry for the Economy and Finance and other government departments. It prepares financial reports on the transactions for the State Audit Office and government departments. It runs the IT procedures of the general government treasury operations and the General Government Transactions Information System (Sistema Informativo delle Operazioni degli Enti Pubblici - SIOPE), and also follows the evolution of public payments. It administers the Treasury's payments account with the Bank of Italy, prepares daily forecasts of the state sector borrowing requirement and the account for the ECB. It runs the cash services for a number of public bodies. It handles payments and receipts to and from residents of non-euro-area countries on behalf of governmental bodies.
