Born in Rome on April 2, 1950, he graduated from "La Sapienza" University of Rome with a degree in Economics (1975). He joined the Bank of Italy in 1974, and in 1980 was assigned to the Economic Research Department. In 1982 he received an MA in Financial Economics from the University College of North Wales in Bangor.
From 1986 to 1990 he worked in Washington D.C., initially in the Loan Department of the World Bank and in 1988 with the International Monetary Fund, as Technical Assistant to the Italian Executive Director. Following one year in Paris as Economic and Financial Attaché with the Italian Embassy to the OECD, in 1991 he was assigned to Tokyo as Representative of the Bank of Italy for Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Upon his return to Italy in 2003, he was first appointed Director of the Parma Branch of the Bank and in 2006 of the Regional branch in Venice. He then held the position of head of the Bank's Internal Audit Department from January 2007 until May 2010. On June 3rd he was appointed Managing Director for IT Resources and Statistics Area. In this capacity he takes part in various IT Sector International Groups and Committees and acts as Chairman of the Interbank Convention on Automation (CIPA).
He is the author of various publications on economic and financial matters, in particular regarding Japan.
He was awarded the title of "Grande Ufficiale dell'Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana" (2007).
