Code of conduct for the staff of the Bank of Italy

On 26 October the Board of Directors approved a code of ethics for Bank staff. The code lays down the general principles with which employees must comply in performing their duties, consonant with the public nature of the Bank and the importance of the interests entrusted to them.

Specifically, the code incorporates principles concerning independence and impartiality, ceilings on the acceptance of gifts, conflicts of interest, confidentiality, and continuance of duties after cessation of employment.

The code serves to guide individual conduct, without prejudice to obligations and injunctions laid down in formal regulations.
