The exchange rate quotations of the U.S. Dollar, French Franc, Swiss Franc and Pound Sterling against the Italian Lira have been available in Bank of Italy's data bank (inferred from the data base of the no longer existing Ufficio Italiano dei Cambi) since 1 February 1918. The other currencies' quotations started on different dates according to their growth in importance among Italy's trading partners.
In compliance with the data bank existing at the time, even quotations against the U.S. Dollar have been worked out since August 1955, on the basis of their cross-rates against the Italian Lira.
In December 1963 other 17 currencies started being quoted against the Italian Lira. Several others have been added in the course of years: each currency's starting collection date is shown in the currency list of the web site.
