Physical cross-border transportation of money and bearer instruments

Physical movements, by carrying or parcel postage or equivalent to and from abroad by residents and non-residents, of money and other bearer instruments denominated in euros or foreign currencies amounting to more than € 10,000 or the equivalent thereof must be declared.

As of 1 January 2009, with the entry into force of Legislative Decree 195/2008, such declarations must be made to the Customs Agency.

The application of sanctions is entrusted to the Ministry for the Economy and Finance. The UIF will nonetheless continue to provide for the documentation of sanction proceedings initiated up to 31 December 2008.
